Culture is a puzzle: individual, interlocking pieces built on what used to be culture. A puzzle, stacked on a puzzle, usually cornerstoned by unimaginable violence. Any piece of culture is either definitional or referential. That is, pieces of culture usually either define the broader landscape or they have a higher, meta narrative about the culture they are both a part of and apart from. Twin Peaks is one of these, pretending to be the other. No one is sure about the details, though.

A major influence on weird girls and the most unpleasant men you've ever met, and perhaps the first thing you think about when you hear "David Lynch". For years I've had some half-interest in Twin Peaks and Lynch's other filmography. I'll enjoy it, I know, it'll mean something to me. I tried to watch it before, and made it an episode or two into the second season. The time wasn't right. Twin Peaks finds you, in the time and the place you are most vulnerable. A cognito-predator for people like me.

On July 31st, the instagram account ijbololita posted this watch order for Twin Peaks:

The watch order presented by ijbololita, which consists of: 1. watch the first half of season 1 of twin peaks. 2. All of Twilight Zone (except second series). 3. All of X-Files. 4. Finish Season 2. 5. Spend 2 Months wandering washington wilderness to fully comprehend the concept of a douglas fir. 6. watch season 2 until killer is revealed. 7. All of David Lynch's filmography. 8. MGS1-4. 9. MILF Manor (To understand the James Subplot). 10. Finish up to the very last episode (of TP season 2). 11. Burn every shakespeare book in a 15-mile radius. 12. Watch the last episode (of TP season 2). 13 Play either Metal Gear Solid Rising or Firewatch. 14. Watch TP fire walk with me. 15. Rewarch the entire show and movie again in hopes the movie makes sense. It still makes no sense (this rewarch is a great way to introduce a woman into the show so you can meticulously explain the plot but respond to any question she has that don't know the answer to with "It will make more sense later").
17. Play All the Yakuza Games in reverse release order (but play Yakuza 0 last). 18. Break up with your girlfriend (unskippable scene). 19. Watch first three quarter of the TP The Return. 20. Pause to take a break and play Postal 2 when the car accident. 21. Play one full game (of The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940-43). 22. Buy a PS4 with P.T. 23. Finish the show. 24. Watch Twin Perfect's 3 videos to understand the plot and rewatch the show. BONUS: you are suddenly much better at bloodbourne.

There are moments in some young women's life when they are presented with a bit, one that is obviously catastrophically destructive to their well-being - no better than an intrusive thought. We can choose to allow these moments to pass us by, to live in a world where we are loved and whole. Alternatively, you could allow this bit to consume you, to eat what little is left of who you are. Inarguably this is the correct choice. This watch-order captivated me, it speaks to some psycho-sexual weakness within my constitution. Clearly, someone has to do this. So I'll make of myself an emotional Giles Corey for absolutely no one's pleasure, to demand more weight, more weight.

I will stick as closely to this watch order as possible. Though, of course, some of this may be naturally unachievable, or may need to be done somewhat out of order. We WILL be making a trip to the Washington wilderness lasting AT LEAST one week - a full two months may be not possible for a young, cursed professional. I WILL seduce and break up with a poor, unsuspecting woman for this project. Unless they turn out to be a soul-mate OR it seems too mean. I WILL play an obscure war board game, against MYSELF if that's what it takes. Here, these experiences will be catalogued and I will not provide new or interesting commentary at any point along the way. Though, who knows if originality is even possible at this point.
